The other group received only strength training. After 12 weeks, both groups lost weight. The cardio training group lost 30% fat mass and 70% muscle mass. The strength training group lost 100% fat mass. The results show that the group with strength training lost significantly more fat. Also, the resting metabolism (how quickly you burn calories without effort) of the ‘cardio group’ was less than the ‘strength training group’. Building muscle ensures that more fat mass is burned. In order to lose fat mass without losing muscle mass, the best method is to combine a caloric-restricted diet with strength training.

 

Responsible diets

Finally, calorie-restricted diets do not mean that you have to starve yourself or eat extremely few calories. Large calorie deficits always causes the loss of muscle. Whenever your body gets too little energy and begins to burn proteins, means that you will break down muscle even with strength training and necessary protein in your diet.
